Kick me if I’m wrong, but women are MUCH needier than men.
We need constant reminders and affirmations about how we look, what we’re doing and how we’re feeling. We can’t help it, it’s just how we’re programmed.
What we sometimes forget, or maybe not even realise, men want these reminders as well. They might just not voice it as much as women do (which is probably all the time?). For men, hearing good things about themselves boosts their egos (what man will say no to that?) but also makes them feel appreciated and wanted.
So I thought I’d put together a list of how to be an awesome wife to your husband and help you make him feel appreciated and loved. The best inspiration comes from the moment you realise you’re guilty of not doing these things for your own hubby.
Make His Favourite Dinner.
You know the old saying “The way to a man’s heart is through his stomach”? Yep, it’s kind of true. Hubby Byren loves when I try out new recipes and come up with fun new dishes. I might not be making his favourite dishes, but he appreciates the fact that I try new things to serve on the dinner table.
Buy a Small Gift.
It doesn’t need to be something expensive or super big. Why not keep it simple and buy his favourite chocolate? It’s always the idea that counts, no matter how small it might be.
Put Away Any Electronics When You’re Together.
When you’re spending time together, pack away any distractions. We actually have a rule in our house that when we’re in the bedroom, we’re not allowed any phones, iPads or laptops. And it works for us!
Tell him those pants look great on him. Tell him he smells amazing. Tell him he’s lost weight. Voice it.
Tell Him How Much You Appreciate Him.
Let him know you appreciate everything he does for you and the kids (if you have kids). Tell him you appreciate his hard work and all the hours he puts in to provide for his family. Tell him you appreciate his strength and his confidence and his love.
Where Something He Says He Likes on You.
Hubby Byren told me very early in our relationship that he loves seeing me in dresses. I never found dresses comfortable but I realised that it made him happy to see me wearing them. So I decided to add a few to my wardrobe and you won’t believe the compliments I receive (a little reverse psychology?)
If you’re a stay at home like me, you probably don’t dress up much. Or do your hair. Or do your make up. You’re probably comfortable wearing sweatpants, PJs or exercise clothes (minus the exercise). But remember, we need to be moms as well as wives to our husbands, so making an effort in your appearance is pretty important.
Watch What He Wants to Watch.
It doesn’t matter if you hate action movie or drama movies, you’re going to have to suck it down and watch them. I don’t like war movies and war documentaries, and Hubby Byren loves them. What do I do? I sit and watch them with him (and also because I want to bank for the moments I want to watch a chick flick).
It sounds simple and silly, but while watching TV or cuddling, hold hands. Physical touch is a positive attribute and it could also lead to other things, *wink wink*.
I’m not talking about a peck on the cheek, or on the lips. I’m talking about a full on making out sessions. Like a couple of teenagers. Again, it could also lead to other things, *wink wink*.
Men find it a complete turn on when a woman initiates sex. Although, a lot of women don’t do this. This specific point caused quite a few arguments under my roof. So I decided to raise the roof a little and initiate from time to time. It works wonders, trust me!
Plan a Special Date Night.
When it comes to date nights, you don’t need to go out and have them outdoors. You can have them at home, in your own living room (or in your bedroom). If you’re stuck for ideas, check out the ideas I put together here.
Run Him a Bath.
It might be a cliché, but your man will enjoy. Add some bubble bath, light some candles and just let him soak and relax.
Spend Time Daydreaming about the Future.
Make plans for the future; where you want to live, where you want to travel to, what you want to do with your lives, what food you want to try, etc. Have fun with these, even if you don’t get to do everything.
If You’re Crafty, Make Him Something.
You don’t need to be an artist to craft something. Pinterest is filled with so many ideas you can try out. I do believe that handmade gifts are special and they get appreciated more.
Make a CD of “Your Songs”.
It’s cheesy, I know. But these songs symbolize your moments together, your memories and the good times you’ve shared.
Send Him a Sweet Text during the Day.
It doesn’t need to be Shakespearian good. A simple ‘I Love You’ or ‘I Miss You’ will do the trick.
Ask Him How to Make His Day Better.
If you want to go the extra mile, ask him what would make him feel better. Brownie points with this one: it would be his idea and he will love you even more for it.
