Finding babysitters (that you can trust) in general is a mission. Finding babysitters on Valentine’s Day is just impossible.
Everyone in a relationship will have plans, and even single people will find other single people to spend the day/night with.
But just because you can’t find a babysitter on Valentine’s Day, doesn’t mean you can’t do anything while at home. Which is exactly where we find ourselves this year on the 14th of February.
I decided to come up with a few stay at home date night ideas that would be great to try out on the day. So if you thought your Valentine’s Day was going to be a disaster, I’m sure you’ll find something you can do at home from this list.
Picnic in the Backyard
Throw together some finger foods, get out the picnic basket, throw out a blanket in the backyard and enjoy a picnic under the stars. If it rains, don’t worry, have the picnic in your living room ‐ no TV, just candles.
You don’t need to plan on cooking up something fancy for dinner, I mean, if you want to eat Mac and Cheese, then you make Mac and Cheese. As long as you’re together, and those candles are burning (and there’s wine in wine glasses), all is great!
Dinner for Two Style
So this will take a little longer in preparation, but if you feel up for it, you can prepare a starter, a main course and dessert. I mean, what’s a little effort for one day out of 365? And if you’re feeling adventurous, you can always get creative with the dessert part.
Make Your Own Pizza
This is one of my favourites because it takes two to create the perfect meal. Both Hubby Byren and I realised at some stage that pizza would taste so much better if you could build your own from scratch. Buy all the ingredients you wish to have on your pizza and build your masterpiece.
I know Rom‐Coms are overrated but what better excuse is there to celebrate love than to get lost in movies that symbolise love (even if most of it isn’t true).
Date Night in a Box
You can really play around with this idea. Think of things you want to do with your significant other and pack all these items into a container. This way there’s an element of surprise for your significant other. Suggestions of what you can pack into the box: sexy lingerie, board games, strawberries, wine, movies, etc. The ideas end with your imagination.
Hot Chocolate Date
You don’t need to go all out on Valentine’s Day if you don’t want to. Keeping it simple also works. Whip up some hot chocolate, light a few candles and spend the evening chatting, remembering good times, giggling at the funny times. See where the night takes you.
This is something both parties can do before Valentine’s Day arrives. Each can write a love letter to the other and read on the night. This is also an option to add to the Date Night in a Box option.
Build a Fort
Who cares if you’re grown-ups with kids of your own? Get creative and turn your living room into a fort. Use whatever you have at hand, and whatever you may have decided to do extra (dinner, hot chocolate or date night in a box), will just be so much more fun.
This could be interpreted as a Date Night in a Box variation. Get some oil, bubble bath and lotion and turn your bedroom into your very own spa. Spoil each other with a bubble bath and candles; just add a massage into the equation to add THE cherry to the cake.
